MAH Law CET (5 Yr LLB) 2018 Analysis
Welcome to the analysis of Mah Law CET (5 yr) 2018 exam. The exam was held on 22 April 2018 from 10 AM – 12 Noon. Online exam was of 150 Questions, each carrying one mark. Questions belonged to five sections, namely Legal Aptitude (40 Q), English (30 Q), Logical Reasoning (40 Q), GK (30 Q), Maths (10 Q). Duration was 120 minutes & there were no section level time limits. Paper was perceived to be lengthy, with some surprise elements
Here is a quick section wise analysis of Mah Law CET (5 yr) 2018
Legal Aptitude & Legal Reasoning (40 Q)
Like last year, the section had 40 Legal reasoning & no LGK questions. LR questions were only of one liner ‘Principle-Facts’ type. Out of 40, 19 were contracts based (7-8 Q on partnership), 14 Q on Criminal Law. For almost 20+ Questions, there was explanation given instead of facts. Around 7 Q were of miscellaneous nature (lawyer-client privilege, evidence, IT act, registration of will, capacity of minor, cartel-competition law). Overall, this section was fairly easy with no lengthy questions. A good score should be 30-32, if not above
English (30Q)
Difficulty level of this section was simple to medium. There was one RC of 10Q. It was long but an easy one. There were 5-6 Q on most grammatically correct choices. All of them had ‘No error’ as one of the options, which made them tricky. There were 4Q each on phrase correction, para jumbles & spelling errors in a sentence. A score of 20-22 will be good.
General Knowledge with Current Affairs (30 Q)
This was a unique section in which there were at least two different sets of questions. One group of students reported 25 static & 5 Current Affairs questions. Quite a few static questions were based on national insignia & establishments, rivers, states, Indian history. 2Q were from Legal GK (Constitution). Current affairs question were based on government schemes, literary awards and cinema.
For others, GK section was made up of 12-15 Current Affairs & the rest were static GK. While it is difficult to predict, 15-18 should be a decent score
Logical and Analytical Reasoning (40 Q)
This was perhaps the most time consuming section. A few question types were same 2017, i.e. linear arrangement (5Q), circular arrangement (5Q), matrix arrangement (5Q). There was a set based on inequalities between variables & comparison between them (5Q). Matrix arrangement was a time consuming one
Sequential input-output (5Q) came as a surprise & it was a time consuming one. Linear arrangement case let was also tricky since people in the arrangement were seeing in opposite directions. Data sufficiency (3Q – Family tree & directions based) was another surprise. Other question types were symbol based logic, alphanumeric series & coding (2Q each), puzzle (1Q). There were 5Q on syllogisms, which were fairly easy. By spending around 30-35 min on this section, 25-28 Q can be called a good score in this section
Mathematical Aptitude (10 Q)
Similar to last year, math questions were straight forward & did not require much application of concepts. The topic wise break up was as follows – Math based Data Sufficiency (2Q), Quadratic equations (2Q), TSD (2Q – Train & upstream-downstream). One question each was asked from SI-CI, averages, partnership, profit & loss. Most questions did not require long calculation; hence around 8 Q should have been rightly done in 10 min
In a nutshell, this exam was a mixed bag. Smart test takers would do well by scoring in LA, English & maths sections. LR needed careful selection of questions & CA-GK is difficult to predict since there were at least two different sets of GK questions. Hence, two students did not necessarily get same questions. Adding up section wise total, 100+ should still be a decent score for Top law schools
