Rashtriya Military schools were eastablished as King George’s Royal Indian Military schools to take care of the education of the sons of defence personnel. In 1952, the schools were reorganized on Public School lines and admissions were made open to the sons of Defence Service Officers and civilians. In 1954, the school became member of the Indian Public Schools Conference (IPSC) and continues to be an active member till date. The schools were renamed Military Schools in 1966 and its old motto, ‘Play the Game’ was replaced with ‘Sheelem Param Bhushanam’ which means Character is the Highest Virtue. On 25th Jun 2007, the schools got their present name “Rashtriya Military School”. The school has several of its alumni occupying high positions in the Armed Forces and in other sectors doing stellar service to the motherland.

The schools are category ‘A’ establishment of the Army and are administrated by the Directorate General of Military Training at IHQ of MOD(Army). The Central Governing Council(CGC), headed by the Defence Secretary, Ministry of Defence is the apex body for these schools.

Rashtriya Miltary School Admission 2020-21 is based on CET (Common Entrance Test) and Interview. CET would be a pen and paper-based test and the students have to mark their answers on the OMR Sheet. Rashtriya Military School is only for boys. It is affiliated to CBSE, New Delhi, and is a fully residential school. They under the aegis of the Ministry of Defence and are only for the wards of Defence personnel.

RMS Age Eligibility

Age Criteria for Boys seeking admissions, as on 31 March 2021, should be

  • Class 6: Both Boys and Girls aged between 10-12 years as on 31 March 2022 (born between 01 April 2010 to 31 March 2012, both days inclusive) are eligible
  • Class 9: Only boys aged between 13-15 years as on 31 March 2022 (born between 01 April 2007 to 31 March 2009, both days inclusive) are eligible.

Age relaxation: six months of relaxation is given to the wards of personnel killed in the war.

RMS Academic Eligibility

Class 6: For admission in Class 6, student currently studying or passed out class 5 from any govt. /recognized school. Students studying in Class 5 are eligible to appear in the admission test.

Class 9: Student currently studying or passed out class 8 from any govt. /recognized school. Students studying in Class 8 are eligible to appear in the admission test.

Rashtriya Military School admission Application form and Process

Interested applicants can get the Rashtriya Military School admission form by post as well as from any of the Rashtriya Military Schools. The Application form must be filled with due care and no mistake should be made. Date of Birth once mentioned in the records can’t be changed so candidates should be extra cautious while doing so.

Rashtriya  Military School Application Form Fee

  • Through Post: Rashtriya Military School admission form can be obtained through Post, by sending a self-addressed slip of Rs. 650 (Rs. 350 in the case of SC/ST)  (includes Rs 50 for Postage) through demand draft in Favour of “Principal, Rashtriya Military School” payable at respective Rashtriya Military School.
  • By Hand: The admission form can be obtained from any Rashtriya Military school  In by paying Rs. 600 (Rs. 300 in the case of SC/ST)  through cash/ DD.
    • DD should be made in favour of “Principal, Rashtriya Military School” payable at respective Rashtriya Military School.

Military School Medical Test

  • After coming into final merit lists, selected candidates have to go for Medical, prior to admission and only after being declared medically fit candidates will be offered admission to the Rashtriya Military Schools.
  • Original documents with reference to verification of eligibility will be taken only after the student gets qualified for interview/admission test.

Rashtriya Military School Interviews

Candidates who will clear the CET and will be in the merit list will be required to appear for Interview at respective Rashtriya Military Schools. The final merit list will be prepared after the Rashtriya Military School Interviews only. There are no particular dates scheduled for the interviews but once the interview dates are declared, it will be updated on this page. It is important to note that only those students will be given admission in Rashtriya Military Schools who will clear both the CET as well as the interview.

 The result for the written test is available on the official website that is www.rashtriyamilitaryschools.in  and the students whose name appear in the Merit list will appear in the Interview for final selection.


Reservation of Seats in Rashtriya Military School

Reservations offered to the wards of Defence Personnel for the selection procedure:

  • 70% for the wards of JCOS/OR of Army, Navy and AF (including ex-servicemen)
  • 30% for the wards of the officers of Army, Navy, AF (including retired officers) and wards of civilians
  • 50 seats are reserved for wards of Army Personnel Killed in Action in all five RMSs together
  • 15% and 7.5% seats are reserved for SC and ST in all categories.
